The Truth: FIGHTMILK are still three boys and one girl living in London Town who make punchy, occasionally potty-mouthed indiepop with punky guitars and perky vocals. ‘New Year’s Eve’ is their new autumnal single which is lifted off their current ‘Pity Party’ EP and timed to tie in with exultant live events both with Tundra in Bury St Edmunds (October 7th) and with pandamates Desperate Journalist at The Dome on October 19th.

The ‘Pity Party’ EP was launched by the ‘Pity Party’ single in the summertime with fun-thrilled live appearances alongside Spearmint and Skinny Girl Diet at the Lexington and themselves headlining their own balloon-strewn (pity) party at The Victoria in Dalston Village. It also followed on from the boisterous ‘The Curse Of Fightmilk’ EP which came out as a DIY release last year.

All alt.pop things considered, ‘New Year’s Eve’ is about as mature a song as you’ll get from Fightmilk right now, it being slower and more contemplative than their usual crush’n’tumbling indiepunk powerdrives. It also has a brilliant sonic outburst around 2 minutes and 34 seconds leading to gigantically big-hearted finale. But don’t just take our words for it, read these Fightmilk ones here:

"’New Year’s Eve’ was written in the throes of a January 1st hangover that would not quit - flat Lucozade, dry toast, and The Sundays with the volume turned right down didn’t help,” they sigh. “It’s about the absolute shit show of New Year’s Eve. It’s when a whole year of your life is ceremoniously bookended with a party you’ve been looking forward to right up until you have to go to it. You start getting ready and you realise you don’t look as good as you thought you did, and you start to worry about how much you’ve got to achieve in the next 12 months in order to actually look back on the previous year with anything other than embarrassment.

“It’s about the ten-second existential crisis you get just before midnight. You’re looking around for the crying drunk girl and then realise to your horror that it’s you, pal. It’s YOU."
