| a surprisingly optimistic fierce panda one sheet The Band: WYNONA BLEACH The Release: ‘BE POSITIVE’ The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Labels: FIERCE PANDA / PROPELLER SOUND The Release Date: JANUARY 28TH 2026 The Truth: Northern Irish bubble grunge rocksters WYNONA BLEACH return with a fiery new single, ‘Be Positive’, from their forthcoming sophomore album. The latter is called ‘Animal Style’ and hits the streets of the UK and US on May 29th via fierce panda in Camden and Propeller Sounds in Nashville. The transatlanticism-themed label split makes sense, too - Wynona Bleach have made a virtue of spreading their touring talents far and wide, from Belfast to Bel Air via appearances at The New Colossus and SXSW Festivals and a showbiz showcase at Bob Clearmountain’s Apogee Studio in Santa Monica. In fact, 2025 saw the four piece power through a 22-date DIY trek across North America. Those are some tasty numbers to crunch. Speaking of which, ‘Be Positive’ captures a crunching first taste of ‘Animal Style’ with heavily distorted guitars, punching drums and grounding bass under Melyssa Shannon’s commanding, soaring vocals. Driving and intense, yet atmospheric and mysterious thanks to the reverb-drenched nature of the production, the result is a sound as rooted in alt-rock and punk as it is in shoegaze and grunge. “When nostalgia may seem your only way to feel positive about the future, it might be best to kill your darlings,” the band explain. “With that being said, we wanted to feature a big ‘Phil Collins’ snare on it, so armed with the cheapest lexicon reverb rack unit we could find (an MPX100) and without the ability to change the duration of the snare reverb, we write the entire song around that snare sound - that we recorded analog. The title track is a nod to one of the band member’s blood type, and a nod to goth rock heroes of ours, Type O Negative.” This is Wynona Bleach in a sonic nutshell, intense tech-heads and innocent music lovers in fully fearsome effect. Melyssa is joined by Carl Gilmore (bass), James Foy (drums) and Jonny Woods (guitars / vocals), the latter sharing production duties with Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh, who between them have worked with Bjork, Bryan Adams, Manic Street Preachers and Marillion, although not at the same time. Wynona Bleach have supported Alice In Chains and toured with Ash, travelled over 6,500 miles on a tour of Russia and have been nominated for the Northern Ireland Music Prize for both Album and Live Act. Now get ready for some shock and roar with ‘Animal Style’… |
