January 23rd LONDON LEXINGTON
February 22nd LEEDS BELGRAVE MUSIC HALL ‘Ideal’ is the terse debut EP by tense South London duo Scrounge, aka singing guitarist Lucy & and drummer Luke. It features four tracks of brittle, battle-hardened post-punk dramatics including springtime radio smash 'Purpose' and second single ‘Badoom’, which is powerful and straining with raw tension and was released on September 27th. Much like 2018’s getting-to-the-point one word single releases ‘Etch’ and ‘Crimson’ ‘Badoom’ is a short sharp shock of DIY energy in hot pursuit of the sonic truth. Or a little bit like early PJ Harvey playing the local Sonic Youth Club. Or, in their own words: “Badoom represents the release of the underlying tension caused by the stress and mundanity of everyday life. Centred around a repeated lyrical mantra, churning guitars, and a rising sense of hysteria, Badoom is chaotic yet cathartic.” ‘Badoom’ arrives with the Scrounge’s first ever video, a terrific karaoke bar parody shot and directed by Amanda Tooke – artistic collaborator since the band met at Goldsmiths. The video was premiered here: getinherears.com/2019/10/18/video-premiere-scrounge-badoom/ This DIY appeal extends into promotion, organising and throwing the day & night ‘Haus of Scrounge’ release party in Deptford in September with a line-up that included friends and luminaries from the fertile South London scene.
“Oozing the duo’s epic, swirling wall of sound, with ‘Etch’ Scrounge have blown me away once again, marking themselves out as definite ones to watch.” |
