The Truth: The Caress were very much an alternative three piece combo based in New Cross, South East London, comprised of brothers Tom Easton (guitar and vocals), Ben Easton (bass and vocals) and Sam Easton (drums and vocals). They now however number five with the arrival of new guitarists Cameron MacInnes and Dave Hickman from The Little Deaths band.

On May 4th they released their elegantly languid new single called 'Breaking Up', defined by the tortured line "Love is a pain in the heart." Pulling from their interest in girl bands and death discs from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and written with Roy Orbison and Grease in mind, 'Breaking Up' tells the tale of a couple coming to the end of a hostile relationship. The track's waltz drum beat, vibraphone and prominent percussion borrows liberally from Phil Spector, while the lyric is playful and literate.

This ball of swaggering pop joy is the second single to be plucked from the forthcoming ‘In Technicolour’ EP, which is due out on July 6th. The first single was ‘Suffragette Look’ which saw the trio headline The Social and support labelmates Desperate Journalist at Oslo (in Hackney) before escaping to The Great Escape.

‘Suffragette Look’ followed hot on the dainty heels of the ‘You Say I Kiss Like A Girl’ EP which gave the world the thunderous sub-gothic excellence of 'Breakfast With Leather Apron’, which itself followed hot on the Cuban heels of the brilliantly sardonic 'Man Up' single, the video for which starred Laurie Kynaston, an actor who has previously played both Danny Baker and Johnny Marr (although not at the same time).
