The Truth: Park Hotel are a post-electronic dance band based in London. Centred on the creative trio of Tim Abbey, Rebeca Marcos-Rosa and Jonjo they explore the mirrorball-noir territory between alternative arena electronica and wired downtown songwriting. ‘Gone As A Friend’ is their frankly terrific debut, laced as it is with supercool boy / girl vocals and a lovely supple groove, and that very ‘Gone As A Friend’ was premiered by Wonderland here: https://www.wonderlandmagazine.com/2017/02/27/park-hotel-gone-friend/
Live their metropolitan disco-rock studio incarnation expands into a steamroller six piece neo-funk band, featuring three-way vocal harmonies, two guitars, drums, percussion, keyboards and ample cowbell. We think it’s like some joyfully communal face-off between LCD Soundsystem and Earth, Wind & Fire with flashes of Steely Dan and even It’s Immaterial, and by gum we’re not wrong because we’ve seen that joyful communal face-off occurring at The Waiting Room, The Lexington and The Victoria over the past few months.
Park Hotel first entered a recording studio in 2016 to work with producer Eliot James on two tracks 'Gone As A Friend' and 'Going West', handing them over for mixing to Nathan Boddy and mastering at New York's Sterling Sound. After playing a series of feverishly received under-the-radar London shows in Autumn 2016 the band felt ready to go public with a first release, scheduling 'Gone As A Friend' for February 3rd. An album of immaculate dance-craft waits in the wings. Reserve rooms early for 2017.
Park Hotel hereby become the 12th and indeed final release as part of the fierce panda singles club of 2016 / 17ish, following the hearty likes of Alphaduka, Coquin Migale, Cavalry, Chalk, HUSH!, 485C, White Giant, Affairs, A Lily, Joey Fourr and National Service and supported by the casual provenance of Arts Council England. On March 17th those 12 singles were hauled together to create a digital album called ‘fierce panda: singles 16’ which you can sniff here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/fierce-panda-singles-16/id1210373455 - Park Hotel played the launch party in Dalston on March 14th. It were bloomin’ great.
