A searingly dynamic fierce panda one sheet

The Band: NATIONAL SERVICE

The Tunes: ‘A LITTLE MORE TIME’

The Format: DOWNLOAD SINGLE

The Label: fierce panda

The Release Date: JANUARY 13TH 2016

The Truth: the excellently-named NATIONAL SERVICE are a four piece outfit living in North London. They consist of Fintan Campbell (vocals / guitar), Daniel Hipkin (bass / vocals), Ian Moore (guitar / vocals) and Matthew Alston (drums). ‘A Little More Time’ is their first ever release, and a crackingly cranky debut it is too.

Pre-Order Here

In spite of being barely a handful of gigs old from their top secret rehearsal cupboard (in Fortress Studios, Old Street) National Service create tense, tersely modern alt.rock nuggets which nod at the buoyancy of Wild Beasts and the restlessness of Radiohead while bursting into manic sonic life at the most unexpected moments. ‘A Little More Time’ encapsulates that driving belligerence perfectly, revelling in the quartet’s honest vocals, dense harmonies and brooding hypnotic grooves.

We especially like the delivery of frontman Fintan, whose “honest vocals” recall the bruised baritone of I Like Trains at their monumental pomp. We also like the fact that within 11 minutes of receiving the introductory email from National Service on an innocent Monday evening on the sofa we had decided they would be a perfect fit for a fierce panda release – great name, top tune, neat email, let’s sign ‘em…sometimes, even after 23 years, it really is that simple.

National Service hereby join the thoroughly aquatic pool of talent (see Alphaduka, Cavalry, Coquin Migale, HUSH!, Chalk, 485C, Joey Fourr, A Lily, Affairs) which has swum past as part of fierce panda’s 2016 singles club, whereby the label releases 12 ace new releases by 12 ace new bands throughout the year with the gently generous support of the Arts Council.
