** POST-ROCK DUO ALMA’S ‘LIGHTHOUSE’ IS REBUILT BY TOM HODGE ** ** SHOW-STOPPING SINGLE RELEASE AND EUROPEAN TOUR AHOY! ** An impressively impassive fierce panda one sheet The Act: ALMA The Release: 'THE LIGHTHOUSE’ (TOM HODGE REBUILD) The Formats: DIGITAL DOWNLOAD SINGLE The Release Date: NOVEMBER 25TH 2016 The Label: FIERCE PANDA RECORDS ALMA is a London-based ambient group formed in 2014, fronted by songwriter Pete Lambrou. 'The Lighthouse' (Tom Hodge Rebuild) is their new digital single, released on November 25th to coincide with a European tour and their biggest headline show so far at the Lexington on Halloween – full dates below. Not only that but ALMA will be reissuing their ‘ALMA’ mini-album – originally released last summer - on limited edition vinyl on November 4th, and they kicked off this thoroughly phased phase with an acclaimed appearance at the recent ArcTanGent Festival in Bristol. Unsurprisingly, considering ALMA’s propensity for dreamlike sonic driftings and Tom Hodge’s mournful orchestral provenance as both co-conspirator in Piano Interrupted and solo composer, the latter’s rebuild of the former’s ‘The Lighthouse’ is an especially elegant, spectral affair: already one of ALMA’s more sublime recordings, it is now an intimate marriage of broken piano and breathy vocals slowwwwly bringing together the words ‘show’ and ‘stopper’. ‘The Lighthouse’ was also reworked by Maybeshewill earlier this year, doubled up on a digital single release with a Message To Bears remix of 'While Nothing'. The original versions of 'The Lighthouse' and 'While Nothing' both feature on 'ALMA', the current succinctly-named mini-album release by ALMA which tears trembling stars down from the skies and gives them a great big sonic hug. Various other experimental vagabonds such as Nordic Giants, Charlie Barnes, Evolv, Will Samson and Noemi Bolojan are working on tracks with a view to a multifarious ALMA remix album which is due later in 2016 - more news when we have it. ALMA takes its name from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array – “a really bloody powerful telescope”, which is fitting as their music has been described as feeling like "it would sit at home as the background music to an ambient explosion in space." That music has already been hoovering up comparisons to fellow fragrant explorers Sigur Ros, Patrick Watson and Explosions In The Sky, which is perhaps unsurprising when one considers that as mainstay of Codes In The Clouds and Monsters Build Mean Robots Lambrou’s gently cosmic post-rock provenance is impeccable. Joined by fellow Code In The Clouder Ciaran Morahan, ALMA deploy a loop station, multiple delay pedals, a piano and strings to create a slow-moving, high-flying soundscape of luscious gravitas. "Sad, uplifting, haunting, atmospheric and oozing confidence." - flushthefashion
